Biography
Nicolas de Largilliere, French painter (1656-1746). De Largilliere was employed as Sir Peter Lely’s assistant in England where he painted draperies and still-lifes. His style developed the influence of Anthony van Dyck. In 1682, he moved to Paris and joined the Academie Royale in 1686. Largilliere was a prolific portrait painter to the bourgeoisie. In addition, he painted group commemorative portraits, landscapes, still-lifes, and religious works.
