Biography Anna May-Rychter (1864-1954). Painter. Born in Regensburg, Germany, 1864. Studied painting at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Nikolaus Gysis, where she met her future husband, Tadeusz Rychter, and Rudolf Steiner. She and her husband worked on the construction of the first Goetheanum and were members of the artist's group "Aenigma". The Rychters came to Jerusalem in 1924 where they were commissioned to paint watercolors of the Holy sites. They earned their living by selling their paintings as souvenirs. Tadeusz Rychter left for Poland in 1939 to restore a church, but disappeared after the German invasion. Anna stayed alone in Jerusalem where she remained active until she died in 1954, at the age of 90.
