Provenance: Dr. Esther Cohen Scali, received as a present in 1975 (worked in France as a doctor between 1967-1988).
By descent 1988 to the present owner (her son).
Notes: Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by Jean Chauvelin from January 2023.
According to the certificate a preparation for this painting in gouache was exhibited in the artist’s retrospective in Tour, 2009.
On the reverse, a copy of "Are You Jealous" by Paul Gauguin made by Exter ca 1905, which was in the Pushkin Museum, Russia. It makes sense that Exter cut the board of the Gauguin copy and repurposed it for the current work.
