Shimon Avni (1932-), Painter. Born in Paris in 1932. Immigrated to Israel in 1948. Studies: 1957 Painting with Zaritsky, Stematsky and Kiewe; Avni Institute, Tel Aviv, with Streichman; 1958 Grande Chaumiere Academy, Paris; 1961 Beaux Arts, Paris; Fine Arts Academy, Rome; 1965-67 Stage design, photography and animation at French Television. Teaching: 1969-71 Lectured abroad for the Ministry of Education and Culture; 1974-78 Bezalel Academy, Jerusalem, painting; 1975-81 College of Visual Arts, Beersheba; 1975-85 Headmaster of the Art Institute, Municipality of Rehovot; 1981-85 and 1988-92 Art Teachers College, Ramat Hasharon; from 1992 Avni Institute, Tel Aviv, Director and Coordinator of the Arts Department. Prizes: 1975 Scholarship from America-Israel Cultural Foundation; 1985 scholarship from Ministry of Education and Culture for Cite Internationale de l'Art, Paris; 1993 Science and Arts Ministry Prize, Public Center for Culture and Art. In 198 Avni joined the "Radius" Group.
