biography

Mordechai Avniel, Painter and Lawyer. b. 19, Russia. Immigrated 1921. Studies: 1913-17 Art School, Katrinburg, Russia; 1917-19 High School for Art, Katrinburg; 1923 Bezalel, Jerusalem. Teaching: 1924-28 Bezalel, directed and taught in sculpture department. Prizes: 1952 Herman Struck Prize; 1958 1th Anniversary Prize for Water Colours, Ramat Gan; 1961 Histadrut Prize; 1977 First Prize Haifa Municipality. From 193 lived in Haifa. 1958 Participated in Venice Biennale. His works are in museums and collections in Isael and abroad, including the Metropolitan Museum, New York and Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. Died 199. (The Israel Museum in Jerusalem Web Site)
