Yohanan Herson (195-), Painter and Designer. Born in Montreal, Canada in 195. Immigrated to Israel in 1967. Studies: 1967 Bezalel, Jerusalem; 197 Concordia University, Montreal, B.A. in Performing Arts – acting and design; 1974 Hebrew University, Jerusalem, English, literature and history of theatre. Prizes: 198 Third Prize, Akko Drama Festival, stage production and design; 1981 Second Prize, Akko Drama Festival, stage production, creativity and design. His wall hangings are exhibited at Tel Aviv Museum, Bet Agron and Binyanei Ha'Uma, Jerusalem. He also acts in theatre, cinema and television. Over the past two decades Herson has also worked extensively painting in ‘Soft Art’, a technique he mastered while working with Calman Shemi, a pioneer in this unusual art media. Subsequently, Herson began designing tufted wool and mixed media tapestries. Many of his larger pieces were commissioned by various public and private institutions: ‘Tel Aviv University’ and the ‘Jerusalem Journalist Hall’; Bank Mizrachi; Savionei Hagan, Tel Aviv; Africa –Israel, Ramat-Gan Theatre; Conservatory Or Yehuda; Diamond Center, Tel Aviv. Johanan is represented in many fine art galleries in Europe and North America.
